"DemonicHorde" (November 2003 a. b.)
Strong of their neighbours of Belarus and Ukraine, Russia also harbours older Death Metal bands, as Tales of Darknord, and Black Metal as Raven Dark, Nokturnal Mortum and side-projects (Astrofaes, Munruthel, Lucifugum...), as well as newer bands like Hate Forest, Blackdeath, Alkonost, Butterfly Temple, Legion666 or Ithdabquth Qliphoth.
Legion666 is an one-man band from Belarus, a scene we sporadically notice when it comes to Black Metal but also gather many promising and qualitative acts that are worth a bit more exposure in our areas.
Legion666 is an one-man band that's started in 1999 a. b. by the main member Blasphemer, and already released their first demo "Hymns to Satan" in '99, officially released in the beginning of 2000 by Possession Productions (Belarus). The band since changed name and are now: Black Legion Of Death 666, actually working on a second album entitled "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil" that will be released via Misanthropic Propaganda Productions (Belarus), during fall 2003 or beginning of 2004.
Black Legion Of Death 666 play Primitive Satanic Electro-Chaos, with primitive yet hypnotic melodies and extremely harsh and strangled spoken vocals. The main member Blasphemer presents here Black Legion Of Death 666 path and releases.
Hi Blasphemer! Thanks to near our Nordic areas and present Black Legion Of Death 666 a deeper way. Do you think Belarus is a proper place to play Black Metal and when did you begin to play Black Metal?
Demonic Hails to Norge and you, Tribalchemy! A little bit strange question as it seems to me. The plague is global, Destruction is Destruction outside of any limits...
Musically, Legion666 play an unusual style, melting harsh and hateful vocals and instrumentation to muffled yet catchy electro beats and experimentations. Could you present us better your release and how can we definite better your musical style?
I can't say that stylistically the music of Legion666 belongs to the main basis' of Black Metal (everyone can see it) I define the musical style of Legion666 as Primitive Satanic Electro-Chaos. However, if you can recollect Euronymous' words according to his statement, domination of a textual material above musical is main (do you remember this?), so, it is possible to consider Legion666 as Black Metal band, verbally it fully fits the spirit of Black Metal but I'll repeat musically it is cardinally different. But it was a characteristic feature of the debut album.
Well, after a bit archaeology, let's recall this sentence from Euronymous (1992): "We are inspired by our Hatred towards humanity, life, goodness and happiness. And we are inspired both musically and lyrically by the evil nature of the Northern lands, and the darkness and cold up here". May it fit B.L.O.D. 666 attitude beyond the musical style?
This is an absolutely correct judgement... Yes, the given Purposes are the priority when it comes to the creativity and ideological orientation of B.L.O.D. 666. Influences of the nature environment are only secondary factors for B.L.O.D. 666. But all is temporary, up to full Destruction...
The mankind shows a model of pitiable marionette of own desires (happiness, family, success only a fiction, illusory beacons for the sheep flock). The flock is inert and it is doomed to extermination. And We are that Hammer of Destruction...
Could you remind us the beginning of Legion666, its formation, and releases?
Black Legion Of Death 666 started its presence under the initial name of Legion666 in the end of summer 1999 a. b. It was the result of an artistic collaboration between Blasphemer and V. A. (he was the main person in music writing as I was mostly responsible of textual/voice materials with a little participation in the musical parts). In October 1999 a. b. a debut album, long of 23-minutes was recorded. Its title is "Hymns to Satan" (the original title is written in Russian) and it consists of 5 tracks. As I said above the musical contents were mainly written by V. A., lyrical part was fully written by me; the musical style (which illustrates some explorers in computer technology area) can be characterized as Primitive Satanic Electro-Chaos but this definition has a very conditional character, don't you think so?
Through, a few weeks after the recording V. A. left the band there weren't any conflicts or anything similar, this is his own decision; I think he found something that he needed in Legion666 and then he decided to coordinate his powers in a personal band. In the beginning of 2000 a. b. the "Hymns to Satan" album was printed in MC format by Belarusian Possession Productions as its seventh release (without any doubts good hidden numerical symbol).
Also, in the beginning of 2000 a. b. the name was changed to Black Legion Of Death 666, the style changed as well after V. A.'s departure and the name's change is a more correct illustration of the modern inner sense of the band. The second album (its title is "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil") is planned to be released at the end of this year (or in the first months of 2004 a. b. the last date would be more correct I think). The only one track performed in Russian (however, it's not final decision). Well, time will show everything...
Is Legion666 a one-man band? What are the other musicians involved in your releases? Did you already get involved in other UG acts or is Legion666 your main band and priority?
Yes, it is; B.L.O.D. 666 is one-man band only after V. A.'s departure, I thought that nobody would be added to the line-up, I'll be alone... After the some events here when one stupid prematurely born child (who played some guitar parts, and these words are absolutely honest definition) treachery I'm disappointed by any "pseudo-friendship". This pig was one of the reasons of long delaying in second album recording. In the light of the facts noticed above the good quote would be the words "I am the Master of my Fate, I am the captain of my soul" ("Invictus", by W. E. Henley).
Concerning the last part of your question in the middle of 90's I played in the "room-audience" band Inconsolable Grief that performed "Suicidal Music" in the vein of Thergothon or maybe Necroshizma. This band "successfully" died many years ago but anyway we could consider it as the first incarnation of all Negative Energy later accumulated in Legion666. It left only one track with the ultra bad sound; this track was destroyed later due to its bad condition and quality of performance. Hmm, but the lyrics rise again now the lyrics of "Decapitate the Fucking christ!" track will be used in the "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil" album and this one is a reincarnation of the old Inconsolable Grief material. "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil" album reflects material and ideas gathered during the period 2000-2001 a. b.
Your first demo "Hymns to Satan" dates from 1999 a. b. but the official release of this demo was delayed and only released in 2000 a. b. on Possession Productions. Does this official MC-album "Hymns to Satan" contain some differences with the original demo?
You own a little bit deformed information. The album "Hymns to Satan" was recorded in October, 1999 a. b. and was initially planned as a tape-album edition. Accordingly, there were no demo-versions.
What is the meaning of your original name Legion666, and why did you decide to re-name it Black Legion Of Death 666? Are Satanism and Anti-religion the main message of your band and beliefs?
As it seems to me the name reflects the deepest components of my propaganda clearly enough. Nevertheless, I think that it is correct to name Non-Existence as the main priority of ideological message of B.L.O.D. 666.
Mentioned by you Satanism and Anti-religion are only the bricks which create the Invincible Power of Eternal Evil. At present this is one of the manifestations of the Call of the Abyss and It is Eternal.
The transformation into the Black Legion Of Death 666 is a progress, it is a stimulus. Moreover, this name reflects the realities of an internal dominant in ideology maximally brimful. In short, everyone can analyze the verbal basis of a same track to understand and comprehend all premises/internal essence of the band. B.L.O.D. 666 is a whip for obedient human flock!
Your lyrics are exclusively written in Russian, why this choice? Is your native language the best way for you to express and transmit exactly the ideas and feel you want or are there any other reasons to this choice?
Yes, the lyrics in Russian language were chosen for a more complete reflection of verbal expression and, first of all, it was intended for a full understanding by "local" audience. But, in my opinion, it has exhausted itself.
This choice is understandable though your releases will only reach a limited audience as Russian is rather a difficult language for our areas that we are not used to read nor understand. Will you still use only Russian in your upcoming releases or will you enlarge your texts with some English translation of your writings?
As it appears from the title of the upcoming album the lyrics will also be written in English. Probably, there will be one "Russian-written" track but finally it is not solved yet. Nevertheless, the lyrical part will remain of the same Destructive Anti-vital kind.
I also by chance got an English translation of your lyrics, they are extreme, Satanic and surprisingly well written, resembling black mass' or incantations. Does Satan embody Hate, Evil and the Darker Side of our souls, or does it have a deeper meaning for you?
I'll tell you that I prefer to speak more volumetrically "Evil" or "Non-existence". Evil is multicultural, this is Destruction, Death, Chaos; this is a shrouding all around Darkness. Satan the Manifestation of Destructive Principle. I think, it is a quite enough. Lyrics are indicative enough and everyone can find there everything that I was held back here...
Are nature, silence, solitude and anger some important values for you to create, important notions to keep the rawness and integrity of the music intact? Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Naturally, the factors you mention may have a rather strong influence in the sub-consciousness and, in result, at a verbal display of ideas. Sometimes they are strengthening each other; sometimes they are unique and extremely powerful... I can say that the lyrics are a very important part of the project; they're related to Occultism and also it was cast by some visions. It is impossible to forget such things as a dream (I regard dreams as Voices of Outside) or experiments with hallucinogens'. And maybe it is paradoxically little but sometimes even enough trivial/profane things may be a source of inspirations. Anyhow, this question is a very voluminous...
Is music your main way to express your creativity, transmit your beliefs and emotions or did you already perform other arts?
Cinematography caused a very serious interest in my mind, so it is quite possible that in the future I'll try to carry out some plans... But in the meanwhile I'm concentrated only with B.L.O.D. 666, thus it is possible to tell that it is my unique priority. But it is temporarily...
Do you think your geographical area can influence your music as we hear often the "typical Scandinavian sound" or "American Black Metal"?
Yes, I do. I think it influences very strongly. I don't think that I'll tell something extremely "original" but I sarcastically laugh when I read words like "Scandinavian Black Metal" or "Northern spirits awakes" as the characteristics of a style, about a band coming from South America or Asia. Everyone should remember his own Gods...
Can you tell us a bit more about the artistic contents of B.L.O.D. 666 album, the choice of the logo, and a bit more about the black/white painting adorning the cover of your MC-album?
This engraving represents the massacre process of the first followers of the christianity that was held in Ancient Roman Empire at an early stage of existence of last one the dressed on animal skins christians were killed by dogs. Naturally, I'll not begin to go deeply into the all preconditions of socio-political character I can recommend to the persons interested a rather huge quantity of works where this fact is mentioned (for example to well-known Tacitus’ "Annalium ab excessu divi Augusti" information). Certainly, it is necessary to mention that the given practice was not unique during the genocide of followers of the "son of the pigeon" it is possible to recollect the crucifixion or the use of burning bodies of christians as night "candles". And as Tertullianus prophesied: "christians to lions!". This engraving illustrates the artistic contents of the album very well Domination of Terror and Destruction!
The logo belongs to magnificent creative Negative Force of Christophe Szpajdel. He completely reflected all that I wanted. Infernal Wishes to Him!
You participated in the Misanthropic Propaganda Productions compilation "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum", a compilation presenting 10 underground and larger bands from East Europe and Scandinavia playing pagan, raw or harsh Black Metal. You played "Prologue / The Burning Horizon", a track except from your first full length "Hymns to Satan", and also the outro "Supreme Minds Spirit...", a track except from your upcoming release "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil". Is it your first participation into a compilation or did Legion666 already provide official or unreleased tracks to other underground releases?
Yes, it is possible to say that it's the first participation of Legion666 into a qualitative release. To "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" cassette compilation "Hunger" was issued here, in Belarus. Legion666 joined there with one Russian and two Belarusian bands. I don't recognize this release paradox, but I think that I have learned about this last one and about all participants (it seems to me after six months). Nobody informed me about it, tracks were coordinated without my participation etc. I didn't see a final result; even I haven't a copy of "Hunger".
The similar situation was observed some months ago with the "Ancient Hordes" compilation-CD which was issued in Greece under the aegis of worthless thieves' and rip-off's from Unisound. This is an absolutely confused release a natural result of the cooperation of two completely incompetent persons: owners of Possession and Unisound (a heap of idiotic mistakes, a mash of ideologies, clumsy design a miserable hand-made article). And as in a case with "Hunger" I have learned about it a while after printing. I can recommend everybody to boycott this release basically it is commercial shit unworthy of any attention.
So, it is possible to define "Si Vis Pacem, Para Bellum" as the unique qualitative compilation release with the participation of Legion666 (moreover, this compilation has illustrated that point of transformation into Black Legion Of Death 666 very well).
You plan to release your upcoming MC-album "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil" on the underground label Misanthropic Propaganda Productions from Belarus, are you satisfied by this deal and M.P.P. support and promotion?
Yes, I am completely satisfied with everything that Misanthropic Propaganda does we understand ourselves very well and we supplement each other. Also, there are some features which are connected to this label but everyone will know it in due time. By the way, for the present days the format of "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil" releasing is not authorized finally time will coordinate everything.
Are there any reasons to the delay of 3 years between your different releases?
Yes, there are. There were some serious problems here. As I also told earlier, the material for the second album was already prepared a long time ago but the main problems were the persons involved in the performance of the guitar parts. I don't want to speak about them it gives them too many "honour". They were the technical problem which has entailed behind self a set of "fineer" troubles. But all these barriers are weak before destructive force and soon the band will revolt from ashes.
The marked use of the synth add softness to the most extreme parts and is at the same time used in a very unusual and different way from many Black Metal bands, will you ensure the programming alone in your upcoming release or will you add a session member again to the line-up?
In the new album the session guitarist will be involved, all other parts will stay under my responsibility (naturally, programming of synth part they will change a little and get more ambient renounced shade used for additional "depression" atmosphere).
What did you success to improve or achieve in this upcoming releases and will your musical style evolve or take other directions?
The new release is a reflection of one more step in Destruction of human in me; it's the next step of my progress. Basically, others are nothing... Yes, the style of "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil" will be distinct from my debut work but in any case it will be possible to see something that was inherent to "Hymns to Satan".
What are the bands you appreciate and support? Also, as you're playing industrial and extreme Metal, do you listen to other musical styles beside Metal and what bands do you recommend us?
Among the bands of my country (I think you mean this) I completely support Pagan and Udumbal only all others are not worthy of any drops of attention. From the countries of the ex-Soviet Empire Blackdeath (ex-Draugwath) and Ithdabquth Qliphoth only are excellent. Also, in earlier times the Lithuanian scene was very good but now in my opinion some decline is observed there.
Yes, the spectrum of my musical predilections is a wide enough from Black Metal to electronic, gothic, classic music. The brief list might be next: Darkthrone, Mayhem (old), Burzum (old), Ildjarn, Satyricon (old), Emperor (old), Bathory (old), Venom (old), Celtic Frost (old), Abruptum, Gehenna, Dead Can Dance, Einstürzende Neubauten, Kraftwerk, Laibach, C. Schultze, The Cure, Diamanda Galás, Aphex Twin and a many, many others it is too tiresome to list absolutely everything...
But you could list at least five Black Metal albums you particularly appreciate and that should be present in each good collection? What were the most recent gigs you went at?
Oh, I don't like to make a certain similarity of "top-lists" I'll specify only those albums I can recall at present and which have proved the fidelity by "time" (not only in Black Metal style but quantity even will be surpassed, you will see and understand it): Kraftwerk "The Man Machine"; Einstürzende Neubauten "Haus Der Luege"; Burzum "Aske"; Endvra "The Watcher"; Mayhem "Live in Leipzig". And all materials of mighty Darkthrone!
I go very rarely to the concerts I don't like this atmosphere of "swarming around of a stage worms". Anyway, recent gig? Industrial "Heilige Feuer IV", that took place in St-Petersburg (October 18, 2003 a. b.). Sometimes these crazy electronic maniacs can kill thousands of pseudo "black metallers" together with their false altruist "misanthropy"...
Do you have any other plans going on and will Black Legion Of Death 666 remain an one-man band, or would you enlarge the line-up with other members in the future?
Illusive plans exist but I'll not speak about them at the moment first of all at present I am completely concentrated on "Unholy Hordes of Eternal Evil". It's impossible to tell with absolute confidence about line-up changes but I'm not sure that someone will appear: when I remind the inactivity/treachery of some "sincere" pseudo-comrades I understand that only one person is capable to completely understand all personal wishes it's me. Alone...
I thank you for this appreciated dialogue and let you add any additional info or recommendations you'd wish to notice.
I thank you for the shown interest from Ultima Thule! Everyone must remember that Epoch of Kali-Yuga is in prosperity promote the accession of Evil and Destruction on this planet! The Chaos is an Infinite Substance and the unique Purpose of the Successor of Negativity! Death to planet Earth!
