What are the views of members of your band on new horror movies and older ones, like the 50’s, the 60’s, the 70’s and 80’s? Personally I think older are better because the moods are authentic. Nowadays, Horror movies smell like plastic, right? I’d like to have your thoughts on this. After all, when I was young, horror movies played an important role when I was to create something, either a drawing or something.
I totally agree with you. They were the huge inspiration to me/us. I have always been watching those movies as long as I can remember and I still do more or less daily. Some of the first horror movies I saw were some "Friday the 13th" episodes and I still worship them today, but look what happened to it today. They ruined it all and started sending Jason into space or fight with Freddy Krueger, which is pure bullshit. I am done with that shit for now. I prefer older movies from 1930-1990. I especially like b/w stuff and ancient sci-fi horror. They don’t make movies like in the old days anymore. Now it’s all ruined by stupid computer effects and far too much nonsense action. There is nothing I hate more than movies like "The Matrix". Now everyone copies those stupid effects. True horror is dead for sure. I only know of a few newer movies which I like, like "Dracula", "The Dead Hate the Living", "House of 1000 Corpses", "The Blair Witch Project part 1", "Lord of the Rings" and some others.
Have you or someone in the band had a really strange or mystic experience?
I don’t want to talk about the other members but I know there have been some stories. For my sake I among other things remember making a garbage can dance once as a kid through telekinesis (I have never been able to do it since) and also once me and a friend often contacted spirits and got in trouble with one of them. It constantly returned to haunt us and said it would kill us. We didn’t contact any for years after that. I must say, but got back to it. There are more stories, but I can’t think of them now.
The video you will make will be a compilation. Will it be possible to make a VCD version or DVD? Can you tell me about its content?
As far as I know there will only be a VHS version of it made, but I am not totally sure about it really. It will feature a song by us called "Robbing the Grave of the Priest", which will consist of live clips and clips from old horror flicks. It has been on the way for ages now, but we are just waiting for Oupiric Productions (Russia) to get ready with the final result. Can’t really do much about it from here. The tape will feature 8 bands from which I remember and all are represented with a video clip and a short interview or some kind. It should be really cool, but we are still waiting to see when it’s ready. Oupire seems to be a busy man.
What is for all of you, your favorite Horror movies and why?
Some of my faves are "The Fog", "Rocket Ship", "The Devil Rides Out", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (haven’t seen the new version of it, but I bet in stinks), "Haunted", "Return of the Living Dead" (perhaps the best movie ever?), "Satanic Rites of Dracula", "The Wolf Man", "Dark Night of the Scarecrow", "The Bride of Frankenstein", "The Creature from the Black Lagoon", "The Invisible Man", "The Abyss", "Creature", "Necromantic", "The Lamp", "Class of Nuke ‘Em High", "C.H.U.D.", "Angry Red Planet", "Ghoulies", "Friday the 13th" part 1-7, "First Men in the Moon", "20 Million Miles to Earth", "Caligula", "Attack of the Giant Leeches", "The Ilsa Movies", "Phantasm", "War of the Worlds", "Missile to the Moon", "Halloween" (NOT the new ones!), "Hell Raiser" part 1-3, "The Day the Earth Stood Still", "The Monster that Challenged the World", "The Exorcist", "Poltergeist" part 1, "Amityville" pat 1-2, "Dracula Has Risen from the Grave", "The Curse of Frankenstein", "Killer Klowns from Outer Space", "The Asphyx", "Jaws", "Kingdom of the Spiders", "Silver Bullet", "Event Horizon", "Dawn of the Mummy", "Carrie" (only the original!), "Warlock", "Witchboard", "Slaughter High" and countless more. Too many to mention really. The eighties had some really amazing horror/slasher movies and I am very much into them, but I also like the gothic and simple atmosphere/stories of the old b/w movies. We are huge fans of old Universal and Hammer horror…
How would you define your present status in the metal industry?
I don’t really know what to say. We aren’t that active right now, but I still think we keep the name going and well-known. The other day we had the picture disk version of the "Robbing the Grave of the Priest" 7"EP released, soon we will start to rehearse for the album. As usual it’s line-up problems and especially missing rehearsal rooms that keep us back. People who are really into us won’t forget us to soon, so it will be okay anyway. Just wait. I don’t really care what position we have in the scene of today as it’s just filled with bullshit anyway. There are not many cool bands left anymore, the scene is invaded by idiots and only stupidity and trends rule. We are not really a part of that circus, I think.
Any special project in the next 6 months?
Hm, we have some stuff planned. For individual plans I’d say I will soon release the new 5th issue of the mighty Tornado magazine and Azter will do more releases etc. on his label/distro Horror Records. With Denial Of God we will have to find a place to rehearse so we can finally get ready for recording the long awaited "The Horrors of Satan" album. We are still talking with some labels anyway about the future releases so that must be sorted out first. You can all keep yourself updated on our website www.denialofgod.net with anything you should know.
Some of you believe in UFO’s? Or a conspiracy of some sort?
I don’t know about the others, but at least I do. I guess they do too. I study it a lot and I have many theories about this and I am sure some of it is a conspiracy. The government would never tell us everything in such a case in fear of mass hysteria or whatever. I wonder what went on in Area 51 (also know as "Dreamland, "Groom Lake" or simply "The Ranch")? Or what about all the witnesses from Roswell, New Mexico? There are several books that constantly give different descriptions on what went on there, despite they should all be the same. It’s hard to tell what pure nonsense is and what truth is sometimes, but I am sure there are UFO’s, yes. Some of the video recordings there exist are impossible to put down anyway and why should we be alone? This is just one of the things that occupy my mind like the Bermuda triangle, the Chupacabra, ghosts etc…
Usually, when you compose a song, what are you thinking of? I mean, what inspires you the most?
That’s very different from time to time. I write most of the lyrics and most of the inspiration comes from my own disturbed mind, but I also get influenced by books and movies. Some of our songs were even based on other stuff. Like some new songs we have. "The Book of Oiufael" was based on a very sick book of the same name. We have some new and unfinished material too, which I don’t know what will happen with yet, but some of those songs are also based on stuff too. Like one on "The Fog" movie and another on a bizarre murder case in Denmark recently, where a girl dressed up in a Halloween costume and stabbed her brother to death for no reason. We wanted to pay a tribute to her. Of course we also have other new stuff coming from our pure imagination like songs about summoning of the living dead, funerals, nightmares etc. Just wait and fear.
Now is the time to also talk about the past… We all have to dig up the past in order to understand who we are. Feel free to say everything you wish… All members are welcome. Any other suggestions are very much welcome too. Freedom is the way.
Well, not much to say about that really as the people in the band have been like this all the time I have known them (Azter is even my brother), so it’s not that anyone changed to fit in the concept. We don’t go for that. I just want to thank you for your interest and great questions. It’s always nice with something above the standard. Keep yourself updated on our website and stay ghoulish.
